How Long Does ICL Last?

In today’s world it is very common for things to have a short shelf-life. For example. How many times have you changed phones over the past decade? Some people even question whether things today are even designed with some “planned obsolescence” that makes it irrelevant a few years down the road. Thus it is only natural to think the same when talking about getting vision corrected with ICL. Surely the ICL can’t last forever, can it?

Incredibly, the ICL is designed just for that! The ICL doesn’t fail or stop working. It doesn’t get cloudy or breakdown over time. It just continues to do it’s job correcting vision.

How do we know this is the case? Well, we don’t know for sure that it will last forever, but we do know that as long as the ICL has been around it has stayed exactly the same. And the ICL has been around for over 20 years! ICLs removed 20 years later (such as during cataract surgery) shows identical characteristics to brand new ICLs when examined under a microscope. Nothing changed with the lens. It was as brand new as it started out with.

So how long will the ICL last? As long as you need it to last.
