How To Fix The Mask Fogging Glasses Woes
If there is anything this past year has taught us, it is that glasses and masks don’t coexist well together. Anyone who has worn glasses with their mask knows all too well the fog that starts to develop on the glasses blurring vision! So how can this be fixed?
Eye surgeons have actually dealt with masks and fogging for quite a while. During surgery, the surgeon wears a mask. And like what everyone is noticing now, this mask can cause fogging to their glasses or their operating microscope. As a response, surgical masks have been developed to prevent fogging. Some masks which have a strip of adhesive right at the top of the mask to provide a tight seal to the face to prevent hot air from escaping into the eyes.
If your mask doesn’t have an adhesive strip, you can actually create your own just with a strip of tape. Medical tape works the best and can be found in any drugstore. Placing a strip of medical tape over the top edge of the mask dramatically prevents fogging. This, however, can look a little weird to others.
There are also ways to help treat the glasses to prevent fog from collecting on the lenses. Swimmers and scuba divers are used to a few of these methods to keep their masks from fogging up. Rubbing the lenses in a soapy solution or a solution with baby shampoo coats the lens and helps it repel water (and thus fog).
Lastly, an easy to way to prevent fog is just to get rid of glasses altogether. Tons of people have made the jump over to contact lenses or laser eye surgery to eliminate this hassle for good!
