Is My Prescription Too Low For Lasik?

Lasik has been life-changing for many people with higher amounts of prescription. In those cases, many of those patients never questioned whether or not lasik is worth it. The answer was simply, “yes”. For patients with smaller prescriptions, this question often crosses their mind. Lasik is perfectly capable of treating small prescriptions, but is it worth it?

People with small prescriptions don’t need to rely on glasses or contact lenses quite as much as people with larger prescriptions. People with just a mild bit of nearsightedness often can work perfectly fine on a computer and read their cell phone just fine without glasses or contact lenses. For these people, they may only be bothered by their vision when they drive or watch TV and movies.

So if someone doesn’t need glasses or contact lenses all the time, when does lasik become worth it? The answer really depends on how much glasses and contact lenses are a bother. For some patients, the blurry vision watching TV may not really bother them enough to even put on their glasses or contact lenses. And there is no number cutoff that can predict this. For most other patients that are bothered enough, however, lasik can be a great solution.

So really, the equation is quite simple. If you are bothered by having to wear glasses or contacts, then lasik can benefit you. It can still be life-changing.
