What Happens If I Move My Eyes During Laser Eye Surgery?

There are two main fears that people have on the day of laser eye surgery. The first of these fears is the concern that blinking will screw up the procedure. The second is the concern that moving the eyes can also screw up the procedure. It’s easy to see why these fears exist; You just don’t want to do anything that will screw laser eye surgery up. The good news is that just like how blinking isn’t an issue at all, the same can be said about moving your eyes around.

Lasik and PRK need to be centered over your vision. Now, if I told you that you HAD to look at the laser for it to work, you would be stressed out! If you happened to look away at all, the treatment could be screwed up. Fortunately, this isn’t the case. The laser software tracks and follows your pupil. Everywhere your pupil goes, the laser follows. If you look slightly to the side, the laser will follow you to the side. If you look really far away beyond what the laser can follow, then the laser just simply stops and waits for you to look back again. Modern lasers are track the eyes more than 1000 times a second! You won’t be able to move your eyes faster than the eye tracker. There isn’t any eye movement that the laser can’t follow. It’s really a quite impressive system.

Laser eye surgery is a very refined procedure. While everyone has some stress going into any procedure, stress about you screwing up your treatment need not be on your list!
