How Do We Treat Blepharitis?
So you’ve been told you have blepharitis. Don’t worry, treating blepharitis is pretty easy. So what exactly do you do?
Well first off, many people can have blepharitis and notice no symptoms whatsoever. In these cases, if it won’t actually provide any benefit, there isn’t really a point to treating the blepharitis. But, you may actually be having symptoms and just not even realize it! Some people don’t even notice that burning, watering or “tired eye” feelings are typically due to the eye drying out. What can be causing the eyes to dry out? Blepharitis certainly is a cause.
While there is no cure for blepharitis, there exists two main options to treat blepharitis and reduce its irritating effect on the eyes. The home remedy is to simply put some baby shampoo (which doesn’t irritate the eyes as much) on a washcloth and then just scrub the ends of the eyelashes and eyelids. Scrubbing the eyelashes removes the blepharitis overgrowth. Seems simple and cheap enough. However, the second option can be even more effective. Instead of using baby shampoo, inexpensive lid scrubs exist that are specifically designed to clean the eyelashes and treat blepharitis.
So whatever route you go, the important part is to be consistent and clean the eyelashes daily. This keeps the blepharitis at bay to maintain nice and healthy eyes.
